About Us

Goldings Estate Rare Breeds Farm is a conservation Farming Project in the heart of Hertford, with the support of DEFRA, Woodland Trust, English Nature, and many others. We are the alternative to the broken and defunct intensive farming system that is needed to promote quality British Meat, whilst integrating the sustainability of our wildlife and their habitats firmly within the core of our farming operation.

Our aim is to provide exceptional quality meat from native and rare breeds, whilst supporting and maintaining the extraordinary environmental landscape. Therefore we farm without the use of pesticides or fertilisers, and with none of our animals being routinely medicated.

Goldings Estate Rare Breeds Farm is part of the historic Grade 2 listed Goldings Estate with its prominent Tudor style mansion. Surrounded by 210 acres of agricultural land which has been actively farmed for more than 350 years. Located in Hertford and approximately 25 miles north of London.

The farm lies in a valley fed by a trout stream, called the Beneficial River, which then forms the Goldings canal. The valley is surrounded by woodland and water meadows.

For us, it is not enough for us to label our livestock as 'free range'. With the freedom to roam, forage for food, wallow in mud, or simply laze in the sun; the welfare of our livestock is our priority. We will go above and beyond to ensure a happy life for all our animals. A life without stress, a natural diet, plenty of exercise, maintaining family groups. These are just a few things which lead to the exceptional quality and flavour of our meats.
